Urad and Urad Dal rad is mainly grown as a secondary mixed crop along with cotton, maize, jowar and other coarse cereals. Urad is mainly a khariff crop, but it is also grown to some extent in the rabi season also. It is sown either in February, June-July, October depending on the area where it is cultivated. Urad is a highly prized pulse, used in several south Indian dishes like idli, vada and dosa etc. It is also used for making papads and used for consumption along with rice and rotis. Tur and Tur Dal Tur is mainly a khariff crop and is cultivated from June-July to September-October. The peak arrival period begins from October at the major trading centers of the country. India accounts for more than 80% of the world's tur/pegion peas production. India imports around 4-5 lakh tons of tur annually. The major country from where India imports tur is Myanmar. In India it is mainly grown in U.P, M.P, Bihar, Maharastra, A.P and Tamil.Nadu. Chana is a rabi crop and is shown from nov to december and harvested from Feb to March.
